Van Persie set for new four-year deal at Arsenal

Robin van Persie will be offered a new four-year deal by Arsene Wenger to help persuade him to stay at Arsenal.

The Daily Mail is reporting that RVP’s long-term future is in doubt after he admitted he does not want to discuss a new contract until the end of the season. But the paper says Arsenal are willing to break their pay structure to ensure they do not lose another star name.

RVP’s deal expires in 2013 and Arsenal want to tie him to a new one before next summer. Van Persie earns £70,000 per week but it is claimed that he will be offered a significant pay increase to stay.

The paper uses quotes from chief executive Ivan Gazidis to back up the report, suggesting the club are willing to take a more lenient view on their pay structure. He said: “We don’t have a salary ceiling, we have a sophisticated business model that looks at what we need to do to compete today, what we need to do to compete next year and in five years. And I am comfortable we will be able to compete in whatever environment is created.”

In my opinion, if Van Persie was as greedy as Nasri or Adebayor he would have ditched Arsenal years ago. he is a true gunner there is no doubt about that! However, what he wants is not necessarily a higher wage, but an assurance from the club that they are ambitious enough to get Arsenal back on course. I think he is purposely stalling to wait and see whether the board will be willing to strengthen the side in the January transfer window and in the summer. Nobody likes to be part of a ‘sinking ship’, and unless the board pull the finger out the situation will only get worse.

I reckon it’s similar to Henry’s situation where by wages wasnt the main issue but the chance of legit silverware.

I think it’s insulting offering him more money … If van persie decides to go it will be down to ambition

Where is our club going, what direction? How can you bring his loyalty into question when the club is going backwards, selling it’s best players every year and buying in medicore players as replacements

He gets older and wants trophies, some clubs can give him that plus more money then we could as an add on

If you want to keep him then prove to him he is at the right club because at the moment its not what the club can do fornhim but what he can do for the club … We need him massively but I doubt he needs us.

Get the right players in, build a world class team and win something then maybe he will stay

It’s a crying shame. The FA and organising bodies have got to do something to regulate the game. Money will kill football off. Maybe it will be for the best. The players today have all the power. Look at the contempt and lack of respect they show for their teams, their managers and their fans. Tevez, Barton, Adebayor, Ash Cole are just a small example of what money is doing. It’s got to change. Why not cap wages? Cap investors? Make sure not only are a higher percentage are from the country they play for but also a percentage have to be from local area and through youth. Maybe we’ll get loyalty, be respected and feel the pride we should feel for the club we love.

I am support of a general wage cap for footballers in order to secure the future of the game.  In the mean time however, it is wise to give RVP any thing betwee 120 – 140K per week to keep him.  If we don’t do that we might lose him before the Financial Fair Play rule comes into effect. When that law takes effect, I think that it will be easier to keep the players you have than to buy new ones.  Let us therefore do what ever we can to keep our best players.

Football amazes me, why do these billionaires lose all of their business ethics when they walk through the door of a Football Stadium ? Robin Van Persie as an asset borders on being a liability, History has demonstrated that…he is the fantastic super all singing all dancing production line machine that breaks down 4 times a year and prevents 10,000 cars being made..
He is about as far away as you can get from the type of player who deserves a wage increase, he needs to play games !!!!!!
Loyalty is not a business necessity, working hard and producing results is..
I admire RVP greatly but I am sorry you can be the most gifted lead guitarist in the world but if you only turn up for 30 nights on my my world tour of 200 nights I don’t want you…rewarding RVP will most definitely cause dressing room unrest, the only reason Modric was rewarded is because he played in 92% of the prem games last season, trust me if it was Bale or VDV I would have the same view, I would sell Bale tomorrow as it happens, because people like him and Anderton, and Walcott and Vermaelen are no use to anyone !

As much as I agree RvP IS a class act and I desperately want to hang on to him hoping at the same time we have finally conquered his injury issues but I do feel he owes the club after they stuck by him in his dark times, the problem is, as you know, money talks and he will probably move on if he maintains his fitness.
Sickeningly Citeh will profit from all the hard work done at AFC for the last 6 seasons, this is starting to sicken me to a point where lower league football is starting to appeal to me, though I realise they have the same problem losing their best players to superior clubs but watching as a neutral observer can enjoy the game provided the teams are not too poor.

I don’t think a higher salary will convince him to stay if he has set his mind on leaving and the likes of Citeh, Anchi Machalaka et al will simply make our offer futile and there in lies the problem. Sadly the only way is to attract better players but the same problem arises that most “better” players are after a final pay day of the magnitude only on offer for the filthy stinking rich clubs.
      Sucks!

why do u all overrate van persie so much. he is not a world class striker by any means. sure he looks neat and tidy and has a decent left foot, but he lacks so many elements to his game and is not a winner. he rarely turns up in the big games (sometimes gets a goal but still very invisible). he cant hold the ball up well, poor in the air, and scared of the tackle. as much as ppl hate him adebayor was a much better striker for us, and if we had both in a 4-4-2 we would score so much more because van persie is more suited to playing behind a striker.

          are you an idiot

how often do u watch RVP
wen RVP is not injured n is playing well, he is a world class striker the problem that arises with van persie n arsenal is that he is not surrounded by alot of world class team mates
he cannot do it all by himself put van persie in a teams like FCB or RM n u will see he will be amongst the higuains n the forlans n tevez
im an arsenal fan to death we jus need a few more quality players n a stern defence n i think that is wen you will realise some of these lads are reall world class
u cant become world class if your surrounded by average players u need ppl of higher quality to lift you to their level and beyond so dont discriminate n RVP is a CF not a ST he plays best wen behind the striker like he does for Netherlands n that is wen u get the best of him

Bigsy is right up to a point, I think we are approaching a record in that van Persie must be on the longest streak without an injury since he joined the club.  By playing more games and being more consistent he will raise his value to both Arsenal and prospective buyers.

van Persie’s medical history could be a pointer to the wider issue of injuries at Arsenal in general.  Too much too young seems to be the problem.  Wenger said last season that he was worried about over-playing Wilshire, well that proved to be entirely accurate as we won’t see the lad back before February.  The same applies to Walcott and, I fear, will apply to Oxlade-Chamberlain, Coquelin and others if they are pushed into too many games.

It is not just when they get into the first team squad that the problem arises but much earlier when they may be asked to do too much at the very young age at which they are joining the academy.

Young players need time to grow up and develop their bodies before becoming the super athletes coaches want in their squads.

The wage is the one reason but the mainly reason is how the arsenal will be in the may2012 ( winning the trophy is the main key to sign ) Arsene should change his attitude first to play to win that he can do easily but it is not the thing he loved to see  so Arsene should make a choice between RVP  win with ugly or without RVP but play stupid beautiful not win.
