Arshavin: I am NOT set to quit Arsenal…yet

Andrei Arshavin is supposed to have “warned” Arsene Wenger he may quit becauase he is “glued to the bench” – but it won’t be in the January window. So despite this perceived threat, the story is that he is not leaving.

AA23 told the Telegraph (amongst others): “Right now I don’t think about changing clubs. If I will be benched for a very long time, then such an issue might be relevant.”

Yet despite this “warning” the paper adds that the former Zenit St Petersburg player – out of contract at the end of next season – has ruled out a return to his homeland, unless Zenit were to make a bid.

He added: “I still want to play for 90 minutes but now I am glued to the bench. I wouldn’t like to play for a Russian club other than Zenit and there were no contacts with Anzhi.”

And he has also said on his personal website that he is going nowhere this season. Admittedly, he may well have to improve on the pitch if he wants to stay. We were told this week that the only player who doesn’t do extra work after training (in the gym) is the wee Ruskie. And he has been called “lazy” once or twice, let’s us face it.

The Sun uses quotes from the saem interview, presumably, to tell us that AW is  unwilling to take advice from anyone else at the club.  He added: “When you have a mundane, domestic problem, he’s always very supportive. But when it comes to Arsenal, no one would dare approach him with questions about football or suggestions to change something round. Everyone knows what the answer would be.

“We’ve never had the ‘big talk’, although I have voiced my opinion a couple of times. He smiled in an understanding way but he has his own ideas.”

All harmless, really.

Meanwhile, the Mirror reports that Wellington Silva wants to end his loan spell at Levante after a Twitter row.

The paper says Brazilian forward Wellington, 18, is fed-up at not getting a chance in the Levante first team and tweeted his frustrations despite being asked to stop spending so much time on social networking sites.

Wellington could now come back to Arsenal in January and then they would loan him out for the rest of the campaign as it is believed there is interest from France, Greece and Brazil, claism the paper.

Isn’t it funny how fans really rip into certain individuals yet others get off lightly, someone like Reyes has a quick in and out and no harm done, yet a player like Arshavin tries to settle down despite off field issues that are well publicised with his Mrs, he get’s his head down out of position and doesn’t thrwo the towel in yet he is useless and needs moving on according to most, if he had of ran in and out he would have been a mercenary but got less flack ! ..and meanwhile Senderos and Squilacci are barely mentioned as absolute cock ups !…Ghaly was ridiculed at spurs for thrwoing a strop yet Jamie O Hara openly wanted portsmouth his loan team to win a cup semi final and the fans forgave him..utter hypocrites all of us..

Reyes always gave 100%, didn’t gripe and left pretty quickly.  I don’t think he really fancied the physicality of the Premiership.

Arshavin has admitted he has been playing below average, nobody can argue with that.

Why would Wenger take advice from players? I doubt that old Red Nose does.

I don’t know any manager that takes advice from players that has clearly been lost in translation and was meant to be Wenger does not listen to his players wishes and beliefs..that is a totally different thing and a necessity..

JiN has clarified Reyes who continually got taken out a la Ekotto style, as for Senders and Squid… Ho Ho Ho, you’re not serious? They’ve been hammered by the fans continually. But you’re right about us being hypocrites, take jenks, he was expected to hit the ground running when Sagna took unexpected leave now he’s picking up accolades.

He has surprised me It will be interesting to see how his positional sense is against a top side, but so far he is holding his own in recent games.

Bigsy, you bang on and on about arshavin playing out of position. Let’s put this to bed as it is very boring. Firstly regarding tracking back. Yes he is expected to do his defensive work. So to is Messi. The issue with arshavin has nothing to do with his defensive effort or lack of. We have majority of possession every game and arshavin does not use it well enough or make things happen enough. He is not tied to the wing he can go where he likes just like Walcott and gervinho.
