Wenger eyes Brum starlet Butland for Arsenal

Open this morning’s papers, or scour them on line, and you’ll find a hotpotch of hullabaloo pertaining to the Arsenal this morning. So, let’s get to it then…

The Mail has a yarn claiming that we are ready to sign Brum’s England Under-21 keeper Jack Butland, currently on loan at Cheltenham. The paper says Butland has been watched regularly by our scouts this season.

It adds: And Arsenal took a key step towards cementing their interest in the 18-year-old after influential chief scout Steve Rowley and goalkeeping coach Gerry Peyton ran the rule over him in England Under-21′s 5-0 thrashing of Iceland last Thursday.

For the record, Sunderland are also keen on the £1m rated keeper. Of course, that isn’t the only transfer tale doing the rounds. The Sun claims we are preparing a £10m bid for Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue. The paper says Arsene Wenger wants the France Under-21 star after being priced out of his top target – £25m-rated Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila.

Over to the Mirror, which reports that Bordeaux president Jean Louis Triaud has admitted he has had several attempts to re-sign striker Marouane Chamakh – but his efforts have been ignored by Arsenal.

Oh, and you can do your bit by saying a very firm and impolite No to T******** getting public money to improve their hovel – go to http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/14605

BTW, I see the home game in the Carling Cup with City has sold out. Heartening.

And finally, a non-Arsenal story but a giggle none the less – see here.

I heard they were behind the riots as it has improved the area. More smashed windows and boarded up shops.

And in relation to post about Lauren’s watch putting a curse on us, that must mean that Spurs are waiting for jimmy greaves timex to be returned.

Ha Ha ..people laughing at the Tottenham High Road and calling it a dump, is that supposed to be an insult, errrrr you would be seriously worried if someone thought it was nice, but Holloway is hardly a class area is it, it is a 9 iron from a prison, and less than a mile away from the biggest red light area in England, with a heroin dealer behind every other doorway ..caledonian road to kings cross so let’s get this right please..noone has the moral high ground here they are both shit holes !..As for the petition that stinks of double standards..now sod off back to your own manor and don’t criticise an area you are not even a part of..we tolerate you in Nth London but like Henry Norris you must be watched closely because you are corrupt and likely to be naughty at any given minute…as for the riots they were largely opportunists and idiots..disgusting behaviour, but no worse than stealing a suitcase that does not belong to you is it MR HILLIER !

bigsy, you continually slate Sir Henry Norris most likely for the allegation cited against him regarding our promotion from the 2nd division (post WW1) when the Totts finished one place above us. On paper this would seem a realistic slant at a man of high standing being a former Mayor, a London City Councillor, MP, Military recrutment officer, (served in the army) Grand Deacon of the Grand Lodge, Philanthropist, prominent  church goer and close friend of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Now you could make the odd snide remark about some of these positions but you have to admit we’re not talking about a Fagin type of character and if memory serves me right these allegations were never proved and were based on the fact we finished 5th to your 4th but at the time the League Chairman (McKenna of Liverpool) was worried that Norris, being of good character in stark contrast to the painted version by some rue mongers (probably yids) would “shop” the league for it’s corruption at the time and the reason given was that Arsenal were longer standing in the league (1893) to the Totts (1908), in a nutshell yeah probabbly the decision was not based on merit of position but that was the decision of the league at the time and we benefited from it.

Far from being a blaggard it would seem our Sir Henry was quite the opposite, more like an eloquent sort of chap that saved the league.

      Hip Hip.

Fair enough based on the facts given in that article he was found guilty of corruption, but as it also stated many clubs were giving bungs due to the wage limitation (something that still goes on today but the weaker FA allow it) as for trowsering the sale of the bus again there are limited details, it’s difficult to believe a man of true standing should go off the rails.

Bale is actually very easy to mark out of a game, Phil Neville done it with ease twice last season, you deny him space in behind and force him inside, he has no right foot at all and is actually very injury prone, his back is still a major concern, and right now his reputation is sky high, I actually think anything over £30 million is value on that basis alone, he is capable of murdering people but it doesn’t happen anymore than 1 in 5 ..I think the better players are more like 1 in 3 …so sell now whilst the reputation is high !..for me he is a big tart !…you have played a high line against us twice now, and we have got in behind you with ease, especially last year at the emirates, with bale running alone to score..Fulham had it about right, and QPR second half..sit deep like england did against spain and stifle us..play open football and we kill most teams..trouble is wenger only plays one way, and right now that is suicide against spurs ! too much pace in the side and craft from the middle.

Interesting analysis, I’m not going to disagree as I haven’t watched him in great detail but even more interesting is that Guardiola likes him and I doubt many Spanish sides play openly.

I wouldn’t mind betting Guardiola is considering using him as an out and out wing back, Alves is not the greatest defender around in my view but going back to what I said last week, I don’t think we have a good defensive right or left back in the game anymore, not an out and out Pearce, Dixon, chuckle brother Gary Neville..type of player, I reluctantly accept Jenkinson is nearer to this model but he charges forward a lot like walker but I would have to question if they are a right back in knowledge and positional sense..the game has changed and Bale would certainly get more time on the ball and find it less demanding for sure in Spain….thats why you have to take your hat off to the likes of Fabregas and Modric, to make it look like you have all day on the ball in the prem is nigh on impossible..brilliant technically !

No disrespect but you are not an arsenal fan, you have not seen as many games in which Cesc has been involved. He has been brilliant for 6 years. You state that Ian Wright was world class therefore if you don’t mind, I will treat your footballing opinions in context of that declaration.

Totally respect your views you are entitled to them, Ian Wright happens to be the 2nd best goalscorer in the history of Arsenal FC and would have to feature in a greatest Arsenal 11 of all time, only my view but I wouldn’t put Cesc in ahead of Alex James, Rocastle,Vieira, Brady, all winners or loyal, and there are countless others who were clubmen and also talented like Davis, Cesc spent 6 years at the forefront of gooners minds and for 3 of them he wanted to go home..hardly worthy of a side swipe at Ian Wright who to this day is Arsenal to the core and let’s face it, Henry was more than a forward, so Wright is arguably the greatest out and out striker in the clubs history..at a club like Arsenal that makes him world class does it not ? he was very unlucky to be playing when we had arguably 2 of the best 5 strikers at International level we have ever had Lineker and then Shearer or Wright would have been thrown in..if that was a wind up it was a good one, but I hope it was not what you really feel or it was bad bad bad knowledge..

Genius. So wright is world class because he is the second best goalscorer in arsenals history. Thanks for that. Sorry, I didn’t realise that was the criteria for world class. I thought the criteria was that they were viewed by the majority as one of the best players in their position in the world. Not necessarily by trophies (though Cesc has won the World Cup. And European Championships). So I think Cesc is probably in that bracket. Rocastle was a legend, but world class?? Not quite. And to your point about Modric playing more frequently than Cesc, I would maybe hazard a guess that it is more difficult to get in the team in front of Xavi, Iniesta, etc, than in front of Tom Huddlestone, Sandro etc.
