My troubling tale of the spare Arsenal tickets

So I have this spare ticket for yesterday and I am loitering, feeling a little bit dirty because I am basically hanging with the touts at the botom of the stairs near the North Bank bridge. There is no way to offer a ticket for sale without sounding like a tout so you do get meancing glances but, hey. “Mate, £35 ticket hete, have it for a £20…all legit,” I say to this Turkish gentleman with limited English. “Can this get three of us in?” came his retort – and I stared, uttered not one murmur, turned on my heels and went in. Ticket unused. Twit.

Not the greatest anecdote you’ll ever encounter, granted (maybe should have chosen the two blokes I saw offer people tickets for free but the offer wasn’t taken up!), but it serves to highlight just how many bleedin’ spare tickets there are for home games these days. And there were loads of empty seats against Fulham yesterday at the Emirates as we drew 1-1 and then had to round-up all of Bobby Zamora’s playthings once the game had concluded. Twot.

And I still can’t believe the club announce tickets sold rather than the genuine attendance. If we get only 55,000 for Fulham at home half five and on the box then let’s tell it how it is. Still by far the biggest attendance in London and second in the PL. Arsenal’s prevarication does them no favours.

I reckon you could pretty much rock up to all but any home game (except United, S****, Chelsea etc) and get in for under face value. And Twitter is swamped (great work by the way from @arsenal_tickets) with punters trying to offload their spares I’ll give it a go as the season progresses and report back. Following on from yesterday’s post and the now infamous (in my mind) Boozergate piece I have to confess that after ranting on about the Railway* I did stray in there after a swifty in the 12 pins. But fera not the search will continue and I have a whole assemblage of watering holes to try out come Tuesday and Manchester City in the Carling Cup.

Anyway, my verdict for the game yesterday was we were a bit flat but with a bit of luck and following headwind we should have won. Take a point and move on I reckon. As for AA23 and Marouanne Chamakh I can’t help but think they were shop-windowed to a degree.

And so we idle towards the Sunday rags and the media coverage of the Arsenal. From what I can see the main tale of interest is that , according to the Mail, City manager Roberto Mancini is preparing a bid for Robin van Persie. Yawn.

Also, that we are that we are interested in signing Udinese’s 22-year-old Romanian winger Gabriel Torje, according to the player’s agent. Induces catatonic state.

*Departed with alacrity as a result of Cadsett’s arse. His guffs have taken on a new potency because of his gout tablets. Stear clear.

Me too , I was holding a friends season ticket yesterday , tried round the pub before the game and was met with three other voices saying the same. Seems people are now getting picky and want two together rather than just being glad to get in.

I dont see why the club cannot have a tickets for sale area officiated by a club steward. fans without tickets could then come to the area and buy the tickets at face value.

I am not going there on the fan and ticket issue..the commentary continually talking about the lack of passion inside the ground rather picks that point up, if the passionate can’t be bothered to sing why would the also rans turn up ?

I have said on numerous occassions last week that to get to Arsenal you pack the midfield, you press, you deny the link ball and you isolate Van Persie, I have said only Van Persie and Vermaelen are true class and the rest are being carried by them, numerous chances fell to second rate players who can’t score for toffee and my point was wholly proven, there will be very few who go to the emirates and do it as well as Foolham did so it won’t have any lasting effect but it is a sign that should not be ignored most of the top 8 will all test if you have more than 2 people who can score ! ..you should have pissed it but sadly THE man did not really get the time and space he has been getting, for that Fuoolham deserve some credit..

I am an ex season ticket holder living in australia. People dont want to go because the football is average. Our proffesor keeps telling us that he is not going to buy anymore players in January becuase we have a good enough squad. If he believes that he is absolutely dreaming!!!! Why the hell is he still persisting with that useless Russian. We need at least 4 new world class players to catch up with the scum. Ramsey is to slow Artetta is past his sell by date. We need more class in January!!!

The football is average everywhere not just at the Emirates..don’t want to keep beating the same drum, but footballers today are crap compared with 25 years ago, fans are not stupid we all had 18 – 20 thousand at reserve games watching people like Micky Hazard and Graham Rix comfortably capable of slotting into a  Brady or  Hoddles boots, now adays the first team players like Sandro and Arteta couldn’t lace the reserve players of yesteryears boots..hence the empty seats..top dollar being asked for second rate rubbish all out of the reach of the people who keep the game afloat, the working man !..lost forever It cannot and will not ever go back ..I would love to see all these stupid Gold, Silver and Bronze memberships done away with..I would introduce a club top up card that costs..£100..you then fill it with credit..you then queue up and swipe it at the turnstile, and when the ground is full it is full..that way it eliminates crooked cash dealing at the turnstiles..and more importantly the club still get the revenue..and normal passionate fans get to see their team..ok it may mean waiting outside the ground at 5am for a 3pm kick off..so what ? only the true fans will get in anyway that way like the old days and the atmosphere is not lost on suited and booted commercial day outs killing our stadia..simple !

Thing is with virtually every game on the box these days the less glamour fixtures are starting to become a struggle to sell, especially given the cost of getting into the ground.   9 out of our 13 league games have been on TV this season!

Carl  - Shall we try the Tollington for the Everton game?
