The Gunners Hope To Keep The Wolf From The Door

Today we offer The Wolves a warm welcome to The Emirates.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were founded as St Lukes in 1877 and have played at Molineux since 1889. They were founder members of the Football League.

Role of Honour:

League Champions: 1953/54, 1957/58, 1958/59.

FA Cup Winners: 1893, 1908, 1949, 1960.

League Cup Winners: 1974, 1980.

Wolves were the beneficiaries of the first ever own goal in the league scored by Gershom Cox of Aston Villa.

It has to be said that Wolves have not had the best of seasons so far. Currently in seventeenth position, on fifteen points, they are only one place above the drop zone having won just one of their eight away games, drawn one and lost the other six, in doing so they have scored six goals while conceding seventeen.

On paper this looks like a banker home win for The Gunners but we all know that nothing can be taken for granted in The Premiership. Wolves manager, Mick McCarthy, will ensure that his players give 100% throughout the game and that they will battle right to the last second of added time.

Much has been said about Robin van Persie’s assault on Shearer’s all time record of thirty-six goals in a calendar year as well as Wenger’s fear of over-playing our star striker, but I think Le Profeseur will stick with Robin for this game at least.

My starting line-up would be:-

Szczesny

Coquelin Meretesacker Koscielny Vermaelen

Ramsey Song Arteta

Walcott van Persie Gervinho

Djourou will have a late fitness test and could come in for Coquelin at right back.

Final Thought

The last time that Wolves beat Arsenal was in 1979.

it’s really a sad result. I think we play very well, but wolves play some good football today. We played a lot through middle, there is nothing wrong bout it, but just our individual skill doesn’t match the requirement to play such football. Game like this need some special player to break it, unfortunately, there wasn’t one. It still way better to watch than the last year team, but it’s sad because of the result.

Van persie didn’t play well, so we didn’t win. Simple as that.
