Henry: Bossing Arsenal would be my dream job

There can be little doubt that Arsene Wenger has enjoyed a love affair with Arsenal since he arrived in north London all those years ago.

But it is a fact of life that one day he will either move upstairs or call it a day, and we must find a replacement for the Emirates hotseat. And, yes, after a seven-year trophy hiatus there are many frustrated Arsenal fans out there who have called for his head.

There is currently a lot of talk about the possibility of Pep Guardiola managing the Gunners at some point after he has enjoyed a rest following his decision to quit Barcelona today.

While being smitten by the club is certainly not a prerequisite, as a supporter who feels that certain affinity with the Arsenal I would welcome a former legend to be the boss.

Think Tony Adams.

But now it has emerged that another star who shares a large part of his heart with us has an eye on the job.

For Thierry Henry has admitted he fancies managing the Arsenal when he hangs up his boots.

When asked by a Gooner, through USA Today, if he would be tempted by a period as manager of the club, the French ace said: “You know what? I might. Now do you think I would be a good one? You can never tell. I actually don’t know if that would be an option. I know I will be in the game for sure. Why not? Sure.

“Everyone knows the love I have for Arsenal Football Club, so you know it goes without saying where. That’s a dream,” added Henry, currently plying his trade at New York Red Bulls.

Of course, Henry enjoyed a spell back at the club on loan in January, scoring three goals in seven appearances, including the winner at Sunderland and the decisive goal against Leeds in the FA Cup.

Speaking about that goal, he added: “It was the first time – put the national team aside – it was the first time I scored a goal as a fan of the team I scored for.

“You know especially the love I have for the club and the love I have for the people working at the club, I said it, I never felt what I felt after that goal in my whole entire career. It’s too much to describe. I know I’ve never felt that before.”

Me? I’d love Tel at the helm…
