The Premier League is back and Arsenal travel to the northeast of England to take on Newcastle United on Sunday. The two deadline day signings have raised the spirits of Arsenal fans but the Magpies are capable of hurting us.
Steve Bruce’s appointment hasn’t really gone well among Newcastle fans. However, his exciting signings are capable of troubling quite a few teams this season.
Club-record signing Joelinton and French winger Allan Saint-Maximin could join Miguel Almiron in a dangerous front-three. But their lack of experience playing together could help us negate the threat on their attacks.
Steve Bruce will miss a massive weapon in Andy Carroll who returned to the club on deadline day. The 30-year-old has scored five goals in eight games against the Gunners including a hattrick for West Ham a few years ago but his injury is good news for us.
Joelinton, like Carroll, is a massive threat in the air. Emery will be hoping that David Luiz and Sokratis’ experience will help him eliminate the danger on Sunday.
Winning the midfield battle
Former Gunner Isaac Hayden will be a rock in central midfield but Sean Longstaff’s lack of game time could prove to be their biggest weakness. Mesut Ozil or Dani Ceballos can expect a lot of space to work with between the middle and final third. If one of them manage to find their feet early, Arsenal could have a field day in their final third.
Alexandre Lacazette is unlikely to start due to an ankle problem. Nicolas Pepe will most likely start off the bench due to his lack of pre-season. Aubameyang is a sure starter upfront and Emery will be hoping that his top scorer from last season can continue to find the net again on Sunday.
