Arsene Wenger is said to be set to go back in to take Fiorentina’s Juan Manuel Vargas to Arsenal in the January window.
The Mirror reports that AW was interested in versatile Vargas in the summer, but decided he wanted to continue to scout him this season.
Peruvian hardman Vargas, 27, can play left back, left midfield or central midfield and the Gunners face competition from Juventus for his signature, which would cost in the region of £10million.
Meanwhile, the Mail reports that AW’s annual grilling from shareholders has been shelved because of “Arsenal’s disastrous start to the season”. The paper claims the shareholders were expecting to quiz the Frenchman this month, but the club have told them by email it is unlikely to happen in the short term.
Arsenal have apparently told supporters that there is no further news and that when there is an update it will be posted on the shareholder website.
