Former Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce spoke on BT Sport’s live commentary of England’s under-21 win against Austria (broadcast on 15/10 from 19:30) about the trait that Eddie Nketiah shares with Liverpool’s superstar attacker Mohamed Salah.
The Arsenal youngster has been left frustrated recently while on loan at Leeds due to lack of game time. However, that could quickly change after his perfect hattrick for the England under-21’s which helped them to pick up an emphatic 5-1 win.
Speaking about Nketiah, Pearce pointed out the one trait that the Englishman shares with Mo Salah.
He said: “I think if I was a striker in this day and age, a young English striker, I’d just copy Mo Salah in his movement, running in behind. Nketiah’s certainly got that trait about him. The ones that run in behind are the ones that score goals in the modern game.”
The Arsenal man also missed a late penalty in the game but that was overshadowed by his three goals. A comparison to one of the best players in the world in Salah is a massive compliment but he still has a long way to go match the Egyptian.
Nketiah’s movement off the ball was remarkable against Austria on Tuesday and looked extremely dangerous whenever he got on the ball. His variety of goals on the night show how big a future he has and if that does not convince Marcelo Bielsa to give him a start at Leeds, notthing will.
