Aaron Ramsey is one of the most beloved Arsenal players of the Emirates era.
The Welshman joined the Gunners from Cardiff City as a teenager in 2008, before he went on to make 369 appearances for the club.
He scored 64 goals for Arsenal and assisted 60, and is one of the only players to score the winning goal in two FA Cup finals.
Now, his old teammate Mikel Arteta could be about to sign a player who could follow a very similar path to Ramsey.
Is Aaron Ramsey the biggest Arsenal legend of the Emirates Stadium era? If not, who is?
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are interested in signing Axel Donczew, a 16-year-old midfielder who last season became the youngest player in Cardiff City’s history.
He made his debut against Newport County at just 15 years and 234 days old, breaking a record that was held by none other than Ramsey himself.
But the Ramsey comparison doesn’t end there. Donczew is a Wales Under-18 international, primarily operates as an attacking midfielder or left winger, and has drawn attention for his shifty dribbling and ability to create chances for himself in tight spaces.
He is highly rated at Cardiff, which is obviously why they handed him such a great opportunity at such a young age.
Pascal De Maesschalck’s Arsenal academy rebuild is underway
After a period of uncertainty, Arsenal have been actively rebuilding their academy this summer under new director Pascal De Maesschalck.
Donczew would initially join the academy setup rather than the first team, and would virtually replace Kyran Thompson, who left for Newcastle.
But much like Jeremy Monga, who they tried to sign but ultimately missed out on to Manchester City, Donczew has already shown he can handle senior football as a teenager.
There’s been more good news this week too, as Emerson Nwaneri has committed his future to Arsenal after months of speculation.

Adding Donczew would be another encouraging step as the academy rebuild begins to gather momentum.
Ramsey turned out rather well for Arsenal. If Donczew follows even a fraction of that path, this could be a very smart piece of recruitment.
