Arsenal and Chelsea have developed an excellent relationship in recent years.
It’s not very common to see two big clubs from the same city get along really well, but transfers between the Gunners and the Blues have become very common.
Chelsea have signed Olivier Giroud and Omari Hutchinson from Arsenal, while Mikel Arteta has brought in Willian, Kai Havertz, Jorginho and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
A deal has been struck for Arsenal to sign Noni Madueke too, but he’s not the only player from Chelsea who has moved to North London in this window.
Marcell Washington signs pro Arsenal contract after leaving Chelsea
Arsenal have been very focused on improving their academy in recent years.
The Gunners already have an excellent youth setup, and they have developed some incredible talents. The likes of Max Dowman and Marlo Salmon are next in line to break through.
Per Mertesacker, who is the head of the academy, is keen to add more to the youth sides, which is why he has been looking around for players to sign.
Arsenal officially announced on Saturday that Marcell Washington has joined the club after leaving Chelsea at the end of his contract in July.
The 17-year-old played 10 games for Arsenal last season on trial, and he impressed enough to get himself a professional contract at the club.
“It’s a very welcoming club,” Washington told Arsenal.com. “From day one, when I came here, I felt really welcomed. That goes from the staff to the players.
“I think it’s a really big club, obviously. The club are always striving to win trophies. I’m just looking to be an addition to that and see what I can offer the club.”

Marcell Washington’s dad won the Champions League with Chelsea
Arsenal fans may not have heard about Washington, but we’re sure most people know who his dad is — Ryan Bertrand.
The 19-cap England international played 57 times for Chelsea, including the 2012 Champions League final that the Blues won against Bayern Munich.
Bertrand played many games against Arsenal in the past as well and even scored a goal in a League Cup quarter-final clash at the Emirates. He played for Southampton then.
Speaking about his dad, Washington said: “I think it’s been such an honour to have him take me through clips and walk me through games that I’ve played.
“He’s really passionate about making me a better player and probably a better version of him. We might have a bit of an argument about it, but you get it out of him.”
