Erling Haaland has very much stolen the headlines in England this season due to his goalscoring antics, yet Chuba Akpom is certainly giving the Norwegian a run for his money with his goal record.
The former Arsenal boy wonder sold for just £2m in 2017 has been on the scene for what feels like an eternity, with Akpom often cited in Arsene Wenger’s later years in north London by supporters and youth football watchers as a real talent for the future for both club and country.
Whilst Akpom never hit the heights many expected, the now-27-year-old has been on a tear this season in the Championship with Middlesbrough, and in doing so, is going toe-to-toe with some of the best strikers world football has to offer.
Akpom only bettered by Haaland and Kane this season with goal record

As per WhoScored, only two strikers in all of England’s top-four leagues have had a better striking rate than Akpom this season, that being the aforementioned and boyhood Arsenal fan Harry Kane.
With 16 goals in the league, the Hale End graduate has outscored every Arsenal player in Mikel Arteta’s squad by a considerable margin, with the forward even being suggested by some supporters on social media as a potential January signing amid Gabriel Jesus’ injury.
Akpom could soon face Arsenal after career-best season

Whilst Middlesbrough’s promotion chances remain to be seen, there’s a strong probability that Akpom will be in the Premier League next season regardless of what Michael Carrick’s side achieves.
Indeed, transfer rumours were in full effect last January linking the striker to numerous top-flight sides, and based on Akpom’s form this season, it will be hard for the striker to turn down his first real shot at being a Premier League regular.
For Arsenal fans, seeing Akpom finally flourish in England has been a joy to watch, amongst many other things this season. And for many supporters, a chance to see their former academy superstar lace up against them in the Premier League will be a sight to behold.
