Arsenal fans have very little faith in the club’s contract negotiators. Aaron Ramsey, Alexis Sanchez and Robin van Persie all left because we couldn’t tie them down to long-term deals, and we are at risk of losing another one.
Teenage wonderkid Folarin Balogun has become a fan favourite at Arsenal. The young striker has two goals and an assist to his name in the Europa League this season despite only playing for 61 minutes.
He is viewed by many as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s heir but his future is still up in the air. Balogun has just over six months left on his current contract and Arsenal are yet to agree a new deal with him.
Fans are seriously worried about the situation. Our history shows that we have a terrible record of letting young players leave. Donyell Malen, Serge Gnabry and Ismael Bennacer all left for next to nothing, and they are all stars at their respective clubs.
Balogun could join that list very soon. He is desperate for game time with the senior squad, but he has three players ahead of him in the pecking order at the moment.
That has increased the speculation surrounding his future, but the teenager seems to have dropped a huge hint. He posted a picture of himself on Instagram with the caption ‘loading’, and club captain Aubameyang has responded to that.
Is that a hint?
Arsenal fans are convinced that Balogun has dropped a hint about his contract. Many feel that he is on the verge of signing a new deal, and Aubameyang – who ‘signed da ting’ himself recently – must know something about it.
We should know more in the coming weeks. Losing Balogun for nothing will not look good, especially when we are going through a rough period in front of goal.
His activity on social media certainly seems like a hint, but it’s never over until the fat lady sings. Arsenal fans will be hoping that Arteta, Edu and co can get the deal over the line before it’s too late.
