After weeks of speculation, William Saliba has finally announced that this summer he will be returning to Arsenal after his season-long loan spell at Olympique Marseille.

In an interview with Telefoot, the France international confirmed his return to north London, putting to bed rumours over Saliba’s future and increasing the surrounding hype for Arsenal ahead of next season.

The return of Saliba is huge news for Arsenal, with the 21-year-old adding some serious depth to the centre-back position and improving the overall quality in the backline as Mikel Arteta aims to get the Gunners back into the UEFA Champions League.

With Saliba now confirmed as an Arsenal player for next season, what could the Gunners’ potential XI look like when the new campaign starts in August, with the north London side set to add some major additions to the squad via the transfer market.

There’s really only one place to start in this predicted XI, and that’s with Saliba and his centre-back partner for our line up Gabriel Magalhaes, who just like the 21-year-old learnt the majority of his defending in France.

The Brazilian international was a star for LOSC Lille before Arsenal signed Gabriel in the summer of 2020, and whilst Ben White impressed last season following his £50m move from Brighton and Hove Albion, Gabriel is a player who compliments Saliba better.

The Frenchman is a unit of a defensive player, and whilst White could also work well alongside Saliba, Gabriel’s natural bulk and aerial dominance makes a partnership with the 21-year-old a frightening concept for any opposing attacker.

From the defence we jump up to the midfield, and whilst Youri Tielemans has been the player Arsenal have most strongly been linked to, James Ward-Prowse has now emerged as a potential signing for Arteta’s side.

According to reports, the Gunners, alongside Tottenham, are interested in the England international, who is just coming off his best season ever in the Premier League with Southampton as Ward-Prowse establishing himself as the free-kick king of the division.

With Martin Odegaard and Thomas Partey set to retain their roles in the midfield, adding Ward-Prowse to the mix could be an interesting prospect for Arsenal, especially given how much the England star likes to get involved in the attack and his unrivalled ability from set-pieces.

Gianluca Scamacca leads the line with Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka

Gabriel Jesus might be the striker Arsenal end up with this summer, yet one name who is making waves in recent weeks is Gianluca Scamacca, with reports suggesting that the Gunners have even had a bid rejected for the Italian international.

16 goals last season saw the 24-year-old break onto the scene in Europe with Sassuolo, and with a £42m price tag now on his head, Scamacca looks set for a big move this summer, with Arsenal seemingly leading the race for the striker.

As well as Scamacca, an audacious return for Serge Gnabry is also being mooted, a potential transfer we have already covered, yet in our XI, the wings remain largely unchanged with Gabriel Martinelli out on the left with Bukayo Saka retaining his spot on the right to complete an incredible attacking trio for Arsenal.
