Arsenal are reportedly one of three Premier League clubs interested in Lille fullback Zeki Celik.
According to the Standard, the Gunners have shown an interest in the 24-year-old right-back. Celik has two years left on his current deal with Lille, and the newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions would accept £13m for the defender.
The Turkish international is keen on a move to the Premier League. Arsenal are likely to sign a right-back this summer, with Hector Bellerin set to leave north London.
According to Coliseo Verdiblanco, Bellerin is a target for La Liga side Real Betis. The Arsenal defender supported the club when he was a child. But, the Seville-based club could struggle to sign the 26-year-old defender given the finances involved with such a deal.
As per the report, Celik’s profile is an attractive one for Mikel Arteta. The defender has won plaudits this season for his ability to win possession high up the pitch as well as pose an attacking threat down the right channel.
Celik’s price tag also makes him a sensible signing for Arsenal. The Gunners are also eager on the likes of Max Aarons and Emerson Royal. But both players are likely to cost over £20m, yet they are younger than the Turkish international.
A new right-back has been one of Arsenal’s priorities right from the get-go this summer. And Celik could be a sensational addition if the Gunners can beat the competition to the defender.
The 24-year-old has flourished with Lille last season in what was an incredible year for Les Dogues.
Celik scored three goals and assisted three in 29 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions, and his skill set would be perfect for what Arteta wants from a fullback.
Whilst Calum Chambers and Cedric Soares have impressed in the position in patches last season, Celik will offer Arsenal great attacking and defensive flexibility down the right. And with Arteta preferring his fullbacks to be solid in both areas, the Turk will be a great addition to the squad.
