According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo (August 10, page 14), Arsenal are ready to meet Real Madrid’s demands to sign Martin Odegaard this summer.
The Odegaard to Arsenal saga has been going on for months now. It seemed certain at one point that the Gunners had a chance to sign him, but those hopes quickly disappeared when the Norwegian sent a farewell message to Gooners on his Instagram.
It looked like he was set to stay at Real Madrid, but things seem to have changed again now.
Arsenal ready to meet Real Madrid’s demands to sign Odegaard
Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival opened the door for Odegaard after his struggles under former boss Zinedine Zidane. However, the Italian picked Isco over the 22-year-old in their friendly against AC Milan, and that has not gone down well.
Although Ancelotti and the Real Madrid hierarchy have told Odegaard that he’s an important player for the club, actions speak louder than words for the Norwegian. He heard the same under Zidane last season and we all saw how that turned out.
As a result, Odegaard, labelled as an ‘extraordinary talent‘ by Emilio Butragueno, is considering his future more than ever, and Mikel Arteta is ready to pounce. The report claims that the Arsenal boss has told our board to bring Odegaard back to the Emirates, and Edu is ready to meet Real Madrid’s £42.3 million asking price.
Odegaard or Maddison?
It is clear that Arteta is a big fan of both Odegaard and Leicester City star James Maddison.
The Arsenal boss went into the summer window with the Norwegian as his number one target. However, when it initially seemed like he would stay in Madrid, Arteta turned his attention to the Foxes number 10.
Both Odegaard and Maddison are spectacular players. Most Arsenal fans would be happy to see either one of them join us before the window shuts, but the Englishman might just be the better option.
Maddison is much more of a goal threat than Odegaard is at this stage of their careers. Goals from midfield is exactly what Arsenal need next season, and that should make the Leicester star the priority. However, he will cost a lot of money this summer.
