Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their interest in Norwich City playmaker Emi Buendia.
According to Goal, Edu is keen on the 24-year-old Argentine winger this summer, with Arsenal eager to sign a creative midfielder. Mikel Arteta wants to keep Real Madrid playmaker Martin Odegaard beyond his current loan spell with the Gunners, but the 28-time Norwegian international’s future is unclear with his parent club.
Buendia is reported to have a price tag of £40m according to the Daily Mail, with the Norwich star once again having a productive season in the Championship for the Canaries. The left-sided winger hit 15 goals and assisted a further 17 in 39 league appearances as Daniel Farke’s side comfortably claimed promotion back to the Premier League as champions.
Arsenal are set for a huge summer of rebuilding under Arteta in the coming months, with the Guardian reporting that as many as five first-team players could depart the club, whilst Fabrizio Romano adds that Willian is eager to depart the north London side after just one season.
Change is coming to Arsenal this summer, and in a big way.
As per the Guardian report, several senior players could leave the Emirates in the transfer window, and signing a creative midfielder is seemingly a priority for Arsenal, with Odegaard’s future uncertain and Emile Smith Rowe not quite up to the physicality of starting week-in-week-out in the Premier League.
And Buendia could be a great option to fulfil this need in the Arsenal squad. The 24-year-old winger has Premier League experience in Norwich’s 2019/20 season in the top-flight, and his most recent season with the Canaries saw the Argentine put up so truly outstanding figures in both goals and assists.
With Arsenal boasting some potent attacking talent in the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe, as well as exciting young prospects like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, Buendia could be the missing key to unleashing this terrifying potential for the Gunners should the north London side decide to sign the Norwich star over Odegaard and other reported creative targets.
