Sheffield United no. 1 Aaron Ramsdale as emerged as a surprise target for Arsenal this summer.
According to the Sun, the Gunners are keen on the 23-year-old shot-stopper as a potential replacement for Bernd Leno. The German could leave this summer. Ramsdale is now part of England’s Euro 2020 squad after an injury to Dean Henderson.
As per the report, Sheffield United value the keeper at £20m. Although the Blades last season finished 20th in the Premier League table, interest is high in Ramsdale.
Ramsdale is an interesting target for Arsenal
Although Sheffield United finished rock bottom of the table, Ramsdale was an impressive performer for the Yorkshire club for good chunks of the season. The keeper made the second-most saves in the division with a save percentage of 70.7%, higher than the likes of Lukasz Fabianski and Edouard Mendy.
The future of Leno is up in the air at this moment. Whilst the German keeper has stated that nothing has happened regarding a transfer and no club is yet to be reliably reported as interested in him, there is talk that the 28-year-old shot-stopper could leave this summer.
Indeed, Ajax star Andre Onana appears to be another target for Arsenal. As reported by Goal, the Cameroonian international is a player of interest for the Gunners. However, other teams are now keen on the 25-year-old keeper.
Ramsdale is an anomaly of a goalkeeper, which makes him an interesting target for Arsenal. Whilst the young shot-stopper has been part of two teams that faced the drop in the Premier League, the 23-year-old remains in high regard from those in the game.
Indeed, Arsenal’s interest could well be real in Ramsdale. But the England international would be a poor choice to replace Leno this summer.
With Onana available, the Ajax star is more experienced and cheaper than Ramsdale, who could do with an extra season with Sheffield United.
