Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly made a formal offer for Lucas Torreira, who is likely to leave Arsenal this summer.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the German club approach the Gunners for the Uruguayan midfielder. However, Torreira wants to return to Italy this summer, meaning that the player could reject a move to Frankfurt.
As per the report, Fiorentina and Lazio are both keen on Torreira. But the Italian sides will likely make loan offers for the former Sampdoria star. Arsenal are eager to offload the midfielder on a permanent deal.
My Revenge On Ben Foster
Torreira is yet to make much of an impact under Mikel Arteta since the Basque manager’s arrival at Arsenal.
The 25-year-old was sent out on loan last season to Atletico Madrid after Arsenal signed Thomas Partey on deadline day. However, the midfielder again was not a stand out performer in Spain.
Indeed, there are under ten days of the window left. And Torreira’s future should to be decided in the coming days.
Insider’s View: Frankfurt could be a fresh start for Torreira
It makes sense why Torreira wants to return to Italy. The midfielder speaks the language, played his best football whilst at Sampdoria and also met his wife in the Mediterranean country.
After the year Torreira has had, with his mother sadly passing due to COVID-19, familiarity is what the midfielder is craving in the next stage of his career. Yet a move to Germany could be a welcome move for the Uruguay star.
Frankfurt are a side that pride itself in turning players into superstars. And with the club having an array of South American stars such as Rafael Borre and Tuta, Torreira will have familiar faces and cultures around him in Germany.
