The Insider's View: Swapping Aubameyang for Coutinho would be horrible business from Arsenal

Arsenal and Barcelona are reportedly in talks over a swap deal between Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Philippe Coutinho.

What’s the story?

According to Sport, a move for the Gabon international is complicated. However, he’s seen as a viable target for the Catalan giants.

The striker and teammate Alexandre Lacazette missed Arsenal’s first Premier League game of the season due to illness.

Meanwhile, Coutinho was left out of Ronald Koeman’s squad for the opener versus Real Sociedad.

And aside from rumours about the Brazilian, the Gunners are supposedly closing in on a move for Martin Odegaard. The club want the Norwegian to be available for Sunday’s clash versus Chelsea.

Mikel Arteta has previously labelled the 32-year-old a ‘big piece of the puzzle’.

Arsenal should not swap Aubameyang for Coutinho

Swapping the star striker in Aubameyang for Coutinho would represent bad business from Arsenal.

Whilst the African has not been in the best of form recently, his finishing ability remains unquestionable.

His services to the north London outfit have generally been sensational, especially in 2020 when he helped the club to an FA Cup triumph.

Meanwhile, the same cannot be said for the South American, who has suffered injury after injury in Spain. His horrific time with injury problems makes him a liability, in place of striker, who rarely misses a game.

Replacing a centre-forward with an injury-prone number 10, with Odegaard on the way, would represent horrible business this summer.
