Arsenal suffered a heartbreaking loss against Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday, but Thomas Partey brought back memories of Patrick Vieira with his tremendous display.

The Ghanaian has had his problems since his big-money move to Arsenal. Injuries were really cruel to him in his first season with us, but he has looked a lot better this term.

His performance against Manchester City on Saturday was arguably his best in an Arsenal shirt. Gooners were blown away by his display and so was Gilberto Silva, who knows a thing or two about dominating the midfield.

Gilberto Silva says Thomas Partey reminded him of Patrick Vieira

Partey started the game brilliantly and he bossed the midfield for 90 minutes.

He was first to every loose ball, recovered possession really well and his positional discipline was absolutely outstanding. He finally looked like the player we all thought he’d be when we signed him, and Gilberto was really impressed too.

Arsenal tweeted out a picture of Partey’s heat map after the game and the Ghanaian was absolutely everywhere. Gilberto replied to that saying: ‘He looked like Patrick Vieira’.

Partey’s stats vs Manchester City

Everyone who watched the game on Saturday would’ve been impressed by Partey. His performance was absolutely outstanding and his stats back that.

In his 90 minutes on the pitch, the Ghanaian had 48 touches of the ball, contested in 15 duels and won nine of them.

He also recovered the ball eight times, attempted six take-ons and completed all but one of them. He registered four tackles, one interception and also managed to create a chance in the game. (Squawka)

Vieira used to perform the same way consistently throughout the season. That’s what Partey has to do now. If he does, a top-four finish will be easy to achieve at the end of this season.
