'It's happening', 'inevitable': Arsenal fans react to news from France concerning Aouar

Arsenal came very close to securing the services of Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar in the summer.

Mikel Arteta was desperate to bring in a new number 10 and the Frenchman was his number one target. Edu tried really hard to strike a deal with Lyon but he failed, and we signed Thomas Partey instead.

The first half of the season showed just how badly we missed a player like Aouar. Arsenal rectified their summer error by signing Martin Odegaard on loan last month, but there is no guarantee that he will stay beyond the end of this campaign.

The Gunners might have to dive into the market again for a new number 10, and Arsenal fans have reason to believe that Aouar is a very realistic option for us in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Lyon announce nine-figure loss

Earlier today, Les Gones announced that the club had lost a staggering €111 million (£96.4m) due to the impact of the global pandemic and French football’s ongoing issues with TV rights. (RMC Sport)

It is claimed that despite the massive loss, Lyon are financially stable at the moment. However, if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League, they are expected to be in serious financial trouble.

Even if they make it into Europe, a lot will depend on how the pandemic evolves. If everything is back to normal, they should be able to recover quickly, but if things continue the way they currently are, they will be forced to sell their best players.

That has caught Arsenal supporters’ eye. Many fans feel that Aouar will surely be up for sale now, and considering how desperate Lyon will likely be for money, there is a feeling that we would be able to land the sensational playmaker for a bargain.
