Italian outlet Calcio Mercato revealed yesterday that Arsenal had joined a whole bunch of clubs in the race to sign Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic.
The Gunners are expected to be on the market for a new number nine this summer. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both expected to move on, which leaves us with just Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabriel Martinelli up front.
Arsenal simply cannot go into a new season with just two strikers. Edu and Mikel Arteta will have to dive into the market to find a new forward, and Vlahovic is a very decent option.
The Serbian has scored 12 goals and has provided a couple of assists for La Viola in 24 starts this season. He is making a fine name for himself in the Italian top-flight and he has a whole host of clubs chasing him ahead of the summer window.
TMW recently claimed that Fiorentina will demand a fee in the region of £35 million. That is a lot of money for a 21-year-old who has had just one good season at the top level, but he might well be worth a punt.
Vlahovic is completely different to all the options we currently have. He’s 6ft 3in tall, holds the ball up brilliantly and is incredibly mobile for someone of his size. His finishing, positioning and his composure are outstanding as well, which makes him a complete package.
It is good news to learn that Arsenal are looking at a player like Vlahovic. It will be extremely difficult to sign him this summer, but Arsenal fans have urged Edu and Arteta to find a way to get this deal done before the start of next season.
