Arsenal fans’ biggest criticism of Mikel Arteta over the last few weeks is his treatment of Gabriel Martinelli.

The Brazilian came in at the start of last season and took the Premier League by storm. He deservedly earned a new long-term contract at the club and many view him as the brightest young talent at Arsenal at the moment.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

Martinelli has had a torrid time with injuries. He missed a big chunk of this season due to an injury he picked up at the end of last term. He came back, impressed everyone, but picked up another frustrating injury.

The Brazilian is fully fit now, but he has fallen down the pecking order. Martinelli has played just 13 minutes of football since the start of February. He was even dropped out of the squad against Tottenham on Sunday and that got a lot of fans talking.

People are really confused as to why Martinelli isn’t getting any game time. Is he not fully fit yet or is there a problem between him and Arteta behind the scenes?

Arsenal supporters now have a theory as to why he has been kept away from the starting lineup.

Arsenal fans think Arteta is preparing Martinelli to replace Lacazette next season

Martinelli uploaded a video on Instagram where he is seen doing some centre-forward drills with one of Arteta’s assistants yesterday.

He is seen attacking balls coming from the flanks as well as picking up the ball from outside the box, turning and having a pop at goal. The Brazilian did it over and over again and fans now feel that he is being trained to become the striker Arsenal may need next season.

Alexandre Lacazette is expected to be sold and some fans believe that Arteta is getting Martinelli ready to replace the former Lyon man. That is a smart move considering that a replacement for the Frenchman will cost us millions in the transfer window.

Here’s how a few fans reacted to his video
