Some NUFC fans are baffled by what Bruce has said about Arsenal loanee Joe Willock

Arsenal loanee Joe Willock is having a fantastic time at Newcastle United at the moment.

The young Englishman came off the bench to score in each of his last two appearances, and Magpies boss Steve Bruce has publicly claimed that he would love to sign Willock permanently and build the team around him.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

He said after the West Ham game, as per The Metro: “He (Willock) is the type of player you’d love to build your club around. Whether we can or not, I’m not quite sure. I was delighted with the response after the penalty. Joe coming on and getting after them high up the pitch was vitally important.”

A lot will of course depend on Arsenal, but are Newcastle United doing enough to convince Willock to stay at St James’ Park? Magpies fans don’t think so.

In Newcastle’s last three Premier League games, our Hale End graduate has played a grand total of 20 minutes. He was an unused substitute against Burnley despite the fact that Willock came on and rescued a point for the Magpies against Tottenham in the previous game.

He came on and did the same against West Ham last weekend, and would it really be a surprise to see him not feature again in Newcastle’s next game? Knowing Bruce, not one fan would be shocked to see the Arsenal man on the bench again.

Magpies fans were truly baffled with Bruce’s comments. They questioned their manager’s words about building a team around Willock when he hasn’t even started the Arsenal loanee since the beginning of the month.

If Newcastle put enough money on the table, we Arsenal fans would gladly let Willock go. However, would the Englishman want to return to Tyneside himself if Bruce is still at the helm? We’re not quite sure.
