Daniel Ek has become a very common name to Arsenal fans. Not many people knew him two weeks ago, but he’s now a household name, and it looks like he will only get more popular.
The Spotify billionaire sat down for an interview with CNBC today where he discussed his interest in buying Arsenal.
He has made it absolutely clear that he is very serious, and it seems like he isn’t really bothered by the statement released by Stan and Josh Kroenke last night. (Read the full statement here)
Ek said: “I’ve been an Arsenal fan since I was eight years old. Arsenal is my team. I love the history, I love the players and of course, I love the fans. So, as I look at that, I just see a tremendous opportunity to set a real vision for the club to bring it back to its glory.
“I want to establish trust with fans and I want to engage the fans again. I am very serious, I have secured the funds for it and I want to bring a very compelling offer to the owners and I hope they hear me out.”
“I’ve been a fan for 30 years of this club. I certainly didn’t expect that this would happen overnight. I’m prepared that this could be a long journey. All I can do is prepare a very thoughtful offer, bring it to them and hope they hear me out.”
“I just focus on the club, on the fans and trying to bring the club back to glory. First and foremost, I’m a fan. That’s the most important thing for me. I want the club to do better, that’s my primary interest.”
Ek has secured the funds!
The mood around Arsenal was a bit dull after the Kroenkes came out and revealed that they will not entertain any offers. However, Ek’s comments have brought the excitement back in.
The Swede really looks determined to test the Kroenkes’ resolve. It looks like he is ready to keep pushing for as long as it takes, and with the likes of Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry reportedly on his side, he might well get his way.
Arsenal fans are beyond excited by what Ek has just said.
