The Daily Mail have given an insight into Mikel Arteta’s plans for the summer transfer window. The report claims that the overhaul at the end of the season could be among the most drastic in the history of the club.

Our defence is the obvious area that will need strengthening in the summer window. David Luiz and Sokratis are on the wrong side of 30 while Shkodran Mustafi, despite his recent good form, is unreliable.

Calum Chambers started the season really well but fell victim to a long-term injury. Rob Holding has struggled since recovering from his own injury from last season.

Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac have struggled with injuries too while Hector Bellerin will need a backup if Cedric’s loan move isn’t made permanent in the summer.

Here are all the defenders linked with a move to Arsenal:

Layvin Kurzawa:

The PSG full-back was heavily linked with a move in January. He will be available for free in the summer and is an experienced option at left-back.

However, Arsenal should focus on central defence considering that Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Bukayo Saka are capable of playing there if both Kolasinac and Tierney are unavailable.

Gabriel Magalhaes:

The Lille youngster has been one of Ligue 1’s most impressive defenders since this time last year. Gabriel has all the attributes to be a top player in the coming years but should we look at someone a little more experienced considering that we will also have William Saliba arriving from France in the summer?

Dayot Upamecano

The Frenchman is arguably the best young defender in world football at the moment. Despite only being 20, he has shone for RB Leipzig and is one of the hottest properties in the Bundesliga.

Upamecano’s contract will expire at the end of next season. That gives Arsenal an opportunity to get him for a lot cheaper than he is actually worth which makes the deal a no brainer.

Nathan Ake:

The Dutchman checks almost all the boxes when it comes to what we need from a centre-half. Ake knows the Premier League very well, is good with his feet and is also capable of playing at left-back.

However, he might be the most expensive player on this list and Arsenal would be better off going for either Upamecano or Gabriel instead.
