Arsenal's record in all competitions when Mike Dean is the referee

Mike Dean and Arsenal fans have had a questionable relationship over the last two decades. England’s most experienced referee doesn’t have many fans in the red side of North London and the stats show exactly why.

Arsenal’s draw against Sheffield United on Saturday was surrounded by controversy with Dean in the centre of things yet again. A foul on Nicolas Pepe was ignored by the referee as well as VAR and the Emirates faithful weren’t happy.

Many fans expressed their discontent towards the experienced referee whose presence has almost always cost the Gunners.

Arsenal have won just 34 out of the 73 games Dean has taken charge in. The decline in results when the Englishman is in charge is shocking compared to when other referees are at the helm.

Surprisingly though, Arsenal had an excellent record when Dean had the whistle in the early 2000s. Arsene Wenger’s men won each of their first 11 games when the 51-year-old was the referee but things have gone downhill since.

The Gunners won just five out of their following 22 games when Dean was in charge and the Englishman stood out more often than not in those results.

This season, Dean took charge of both of our games against Sheffield United. The Gunners were denied two penalties in the game at Bramall Lane, one on Sokratis and another on Pepe. The latter happened yet again at the Emirates on Saturday but is it still just a coincidence at this point?

Does Dean’s appointment play a part on the players’ minds or are we just not good enough on the day? Either way, our record when he is in charge is abysmal and Arteta will have to overcome this very soon.
