Arsene Wenger signed dozens of players when he was at Arsenal.

The legendary Frenchman spent over two decades at the helm in North London, and many of his signings were big successes.

Wenger even came close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo at one point, but Manchester United beat Arsenal to his signature.

Then, about a decade later, Wenger signed a player for Arsenal, and made Ronaldo ‘very angry’.

Cristiano Ronaldo was furious when Arsenal signed Mesut Ozil

Arsenal signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.

It was a real shock to see the German leave the Santiago Bernabeu at the time. He was a key player for the Galacticos and had performed brilliantly there.

However, late in the window that summer, Arsene Wenger found out that Ozil could be on the move, and the then-Gunners boss pounced.

A deal was struck by Arsenal to sign Ozil on deadline day, and fans were over the moon on hearing the news late that night.

One player who was not happy with that signing, however, was Cristiano Ronaldo.

He said at the time, as per AS: “The sale of Ozil is bad news for me. He was the player who best understood my movements in front of goal.

“I’m very angry that Ozil is being sold.”

Mesut Ozil’s record at Arsenal and Real Madrid compared

Ozil is one of the most underappreciated footballers of all time.

The German’s vision is one of the greatest ever, and the ease with which he played the game was always a joy to watch.

Ozil was really good for Arsenal more often than not, but how do his numbers as a Gunner fare compared to his output at Real Madrid?

Ozil’s numbers at Real Madrid were clearly better, but there’s one big reason for that.

The midfielder had Ronaldo and Karim Benzema ahead of him at the Bernabeu, while he had multiple chances wasted by Olivier Giroud at Arsenal.

It’s just a shame that Arsenal did not have a prolific number nine when Ozil was in his prime at the Emirates.
