One of Edu Gaspar’s biggest positives as Arsenal sporting director is his insistence on developing young players.

We have a bunch of hugely exciting prospects coming up, but a few of them might have their path to the first-team blocked by potential signings of highly-rated youngsters from other clubs across the globe.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

For example, Gabriel Martinelli’s arrival pushed Folarin Balogun down the pecking order. Although Arsenal fans aren’t complaining about the fact that we signed the Brazilian wonderkid, it is a shame that we might end up losing someone as talented as the American for nothing this summer.

Another youngster who could face the same problem is Miguel Azeez.

The teenager is arguably the most exciting midfielder we have in our ranks. Arsenal fans have absolutely no doubt about the fact that Azeez will go on to become a top player, but signing another midfield maestro of the same age could stunt his development.

If latest reports are to be believed, Edu is planning to do just that.

Arsenal eye move for Barcelona wonderkid

El Gol Digital recently revealed that Arsenal are eyeing a summer move to sign Barcelona wonderkid Ilaix Moriba. The teenager has been the talk of the town over the last few months after he burst onto the scene at the Camp Nou.

Moriba will enter the final year of his contract this summer and Barca will either have to convince him to stay, or let him go to avoid losing him on a free transfer in a year’s time.

Arsenal and a bunch of other clubs are looking to take advantage of the situation and sign Moriba this summer. The youngster would undoubtedly be a top-quality signing for us, but do we really need him when Azeez is waiting on the wings?

Signing Moriba will hurt Azeez’s first-team chances

Like Azeez, Moriba is a midfielder who can play as a number six, eight or even higher up the pitch if the situation demands. Bursting onto Barcelona’s first-team shows just how good the young Spaniard is, but the Arsenal teenager can turn out to be even better.

Azeez is arguably much better on the ball. He is incredibly composed under pressure and that really is a phenomenal trait to have at such a young age.

The big issue here is Azeez’s defensive qualities. There is a lot of room for improvement in that area, and that might just be why Edu and co are considering signing another wonderkid – even though we already have one in our ranks.

Arsenal will have to consider everything before we make any sort of move for Moriba. Azeez may well look to move on if the Barcelona boy makes his way to the Emirates, which would be a huge shame as we all know how incredible he can become with some fine-tuning.
