The January transfer window is right around the corner and Arsenal fans are hoping for something special. However, there will likely be more departures than incomings.

Arsenal have a pretty big squad for a club that are not in Europe. That has resulted in a lot of frustration among some players, who are barely getting any game time in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta would like to keep everyone together until the summer, but some of them may want to head out in January in search of regular game time. Here are five of them…

Five Arsenal players who could leave in January

Bernd Leno:

The German started the season as our number one but it looks like there’s no way back for him. Aaron Ramsdale is Arteta’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper now, which leaves Leno in a very difficult position.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man is currently out injured, but he’ll be keen to explore his options in January. Leno is a top-quality goalkeeper and plenty of teams across Europe will be lucky to have him. We expect him to move on next month.

Calum Chambers:

It really is a shame that the Englishman hasn’t succeeded at Arsenal. There was a lot of promise when Arsene Wenger signed him as a teenager all those years ago, but it just hasn’t worked out for him.

Chambers will have just six months left on his contract next month. There’s no place for him in the side at the moment, even though he’s so versatile. Arsenal will likely cash in on him in January to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer.

Cedric Soares:

The Portuguese international joined us initially on loan from Southampton and Arteta decided to hand him a permanent contract when he became a free agent. It was a strange move at the time, and as many fans predicted, it hasn’t worked out for him.

Cedric has performed reasonably well in an Arsenal shirt, but he’s not going to displace Takehiro Tomiyasu. With Ainsley Maitland-Niles also an option at right-back, the best thing for the 30-year-old would be to move on.

Mohamed Elneny:

The Egyptian has been heavily linked with a move to Turkey. Besiktas, the club where he had a really successful loan spell, are said to be interested in him again, and it won’t be a surprise to see him move on.

Yes, Arsenal are light in midfield at the moment, but with Granit Xhaka back fit and Albert Sambi Lokonga impressing, we should be all right until the end of the season. To add to that, Elneny only has a few months left on his deal, which means January is our last chance to make some money off his sale.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang:

The Gabon star’s indiscipline has cost him his captaincy and a place in the side. Arteta put his foot down and made it clear that he will not tolerate Aubameyang’s antics anymore. That has cast a huge shadow of doubt on his future.

Many feel there’s no way back for Aubameyang after losing his captaincy. He has been linked with a move to Barcelona as well, and it really won’t be a surprise to see Arteta push him out next month.
