Arsenal have had some big players over the years and there are a number of records held by some of the best to ever do it.
Thierry Henry is the all-time leading goalscorer at the club while David O’Leary remains top of the pops for appearances, strutting out some 722 times for the Gunners.
Other players like Cesc Fabregas – youngest goalscorer – also have their place in the long and rich history of the Gunners.
However, when it comes to the international scene and the highest honour of winning the World Cup, there is only one man who has got on the scoresheet in the final.
And that man, is Emmanuel Petit.

How Emmanuel Petit became the first Arsenal player to score in a World Cup final
That French squad in 1998 was one of the strongest we’ve seen and with the mercurial talent of Zinedine Zidane leading them, they were always going to succeed.
Indeed, it is Zidane who is most remembered for that final, with his two headers putting Brazil to the sword inside St Denis and sealing a memorable tournament for the hosts.
However, many forget that it was actually Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit who put the icing on the cake. In fact, it was a goal very much at Arsenal.
Patrick Vieira was the man who received the ball in an inside left position before his perfectly weighted pass found Petit, who was making a lung busting run forward with the game already won.
Sure enough, Petit got on the end of it before coolly slotting past the onrushing Claudio Taffarel and into the bottom corner.
In doing so, Petit became the first Arsenal player to bag in a World Cup final. And coincidentally, nobody has managed to replicate it since.
Of course, the likes of Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice might get the chance to buck that trend this summer if England keep progressing.
But for now, Petit remains the main man and in terms of Arsenal history, he has his own little place in there.
