As the football season draws to a close, with another two months until the Premiership league kicks off again, already there’s speculation on who our next Premiership champions from 2015 to 2016 are likely to be. Some are suggesting that Arsenal might be in with a shot of winning the next season. Having come third in this year’s premiership, what are the chances of Arsenal raising their spot on the league tables by just two places and becoming the champions next year?
According to Arsenal player Mesut Ozil, the odds are good. Ozil has recently been quoted congratulating Arsenal fans for their continued support, and saying that he hopes to be able to pay them back by winning the next premier league. To do this, he will be focussing on improving performance in next season’s domestic league, believing that they are in a good place to grab their first title in 11 years. But is there any truth in Ozil’s enthusiasm?
Let’s look at a few stats: Arsenal has the third highest number of League Championships to its name, coming in behind Manchester United and Liverpool in first place. They also have a record of 12 FA cup titles, as well as a total of three League and FA cup doubles. So there is no doubt that they are definitely a talented team. They also have one of the best records in history for remaining near the top of the table, as well as the highest average league finishing position in the last century. Plus, they are part of a select few clubs who have managed to bag the FA cup twice in succession, once in 2002 and 2003, and again in 2014 and 2015. Looking at this, could Arsenal be on something of a winning streak?
Another place to look for some indication of winning is, of course, the bookies. Online bookmakers Paddy Power estimate that Arsenal’s chances of winning the next premier league are approximately 9:2. These odds could definitely be better, but they’re still pretty good, especially when you consider that other teams, such as newly promoted Bournemouth, are sitting on 2000:1. The good thing about checking on Paddy Power is that you can even place a bet on the site if you’re feeling confident. The site accepts a number of different payment options, including Ukash. Ukash is a safe, efficient and free payment method which lets users add some extra security to their transactions. It is often used on online gambling sites, particularly online bookmakers. It doesn’t need to be bookmakers, however, as there are other gambling options for you to play on – for example – bingo sites that accept Ukash, of which there are plenty. So if you’re looking to make a bit of money out of your football experience, Paddy Power might be the place for you.
Overall, much of this speculation depends entirely on how well the team trains over the next year, and especially over the next 6 weeks or so. Although they obviously did not take the top spot this time, this could have in part been due to Ozil sustaining a knee injury which kept him out of the first half of the season. If the team can avoid such misfortune again, they may be able to win.
