Who would have thought at the start of the season that an attack featuring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Willian would struggle to score goals? That’s right, nobody.
A win over a fairly strong Liverpool side in the Community Shield followed by a 3-0 demolition of Fulham away from home made it look like Arsenal meant serious business this season.
However, things have gone downhill since. We have won just three more games and have scored eight more goals in the league. We are stuck in 15th in the table, and Aubameyang’s strike last night was only his third in the league this season.

Lacazette has three in the league as well, while Pepe has one and Willian has none. Arsenal are seriously struggling for goals, but a striker they sold for almost nothing is making finishing look easy this season.
Dutch sensation Donyell Malen was one of Arsenal’s brightest prospects when he was with us. He only spent a couple of years in our academy, but made a fantastic name for himself with the under-18s as well as with the under-23s.
First-team chances weren’t open for Malen despite his brilliant showing for the youth teams. He decided to leave the club and Arsenal sold him to PSV Eindhoven for just £540,000 – less than what Mesut Ozil earns every 11 days.

Arsenal’s loss has proved to be PSV’s gain
Malen is a star in the Eredivisie today. The 21-year-old is one of the best players in the Dutch top-flight, and his performances this season will make goal-shy Arsenal regret their decision to sell him.
The Dutch international has scored 15 goals and has provided four assists in all competitions so far. That is an incredible return for someone so young, and when you compare that with how Arsenal have fared, it’ll make you cry.
Lacazette will enter the final year of his contract in the summer, while Folarin Balogun’s future is still up in the air. Arsenal might have to bring in a new striker and Malen would be an extraordinary option, but he will cost at least 100 times the fee that PSV paid us to sign him in 2017.
