Arsene Wenger should capture Daniele De Rossi to bolster the Arsenal midfield, says former Gunners star Paul Mariner.
Wenger has yet to spend any of the £70million kitty he has available and faces a race against time to recruit before the transfer window closes.
And former Highbury hero Mariner wants to see the Roma star at the Emirates.
He said: “I’ve been banging the drum for a while for Daniele De Rossi, because it seems like roma have been selling players willy-nilly.
“He would be fantastic at Arsenal. His wages may be a problem and a transfer fee wouldn’t be great, but that type of player would be brilliant.
“They’ve got Flamini back, who Arsene knows really well. They’ve offered him a three-year contract at 29 and, in my opinion, that’s generous.”
Meanwhile, Mariner says Mesut Ozil shouldn’t be an Arsenal target. He added: “Ozil, who is a fantastic player and was on the market a few weeks ago, was offered to a few teams in the Premier League and one team turned him down”.
“He’s a little bit too much like Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla, even though he’s a fantastic player. Most teams in the world would want him but Arsenal need something a little bit different.”
