At this point, it is fair to say that Unai Emery’s tenure as Arsenal’s manager is coming to an end. The Spaniard’s side failed to win in the league yet again and the questions over his management are back up after Saturday.

Nicolas Pepe remained an unused substitute at home against a side who are known to sit deep and counter-attack. His substitutions made very little sense once again which has turned almost all of the fans against him.

Emery was always going to be a gamble despite his stellar CV. The post-Wenger era was the club’s biggest challenge and unless the Spaniard drastically turns things around in the next few weeks, he should be gone.

The next appointment will once again be a massive decision for the board. A number of big names have been thrown around by the media recently but what are the key qualities that the next Arsenal boss should have? Let’s have a look.

An attacking philosophy:

Arsene Wenger gave Arsenal an identity during his time at the club which has been missing since Emery’s appointment. We have gone from being the closest thing in England to Barcelona to a counter-attacking side.

Arsenal need a manager who is capable of using the attacking quality we have to brilliant effect, something that Emery has failed to do. The Gunners need their identity of being a side that plays beautiful football back and that is the biggest quality that the next manager needs to have.

Man management:

One of Emery’s biggest issues at the Emirates has been his man-management. Mesut Ozil’s ostracisation from the first team is a clear example and the issue clearly hurt us in many games.

The next Gunners boss needs to put the club above himself. A club as big as Arsenal will always have big players with big egos. We need a manager who is capable of handling those big egos while keeping his own in check for the better of the club.

Integrating the youth:

One of the only positives since Emery’s appointment has been his willingness to play the young players. Matteo Guendouzi, Joe Willock and Rob Holding among others have truly thrived and that has to continue.

The quality among the youngsters coming through has been as good as it ever was. The next boss needs to give these young players a chance even if they do cost us a few points along the way.

Edu, Raul Sanllehi and the rest of the board have a massive decision to make in the next few weeks and we, as Arsenal fans, can only hope that they can get it right.
