Kieran Tierney’s absence against Crystal Palace showed just how weak Arsenal are without him. The Scotsman is one of our best players and if he isn’t available, our left side offers zero threat.

Sead Kolasinac returned to Schalke on loan until the end of this season and it looks like his Arsenal career is over. Bukayo Saka is one of the first names on the team sheet on the right-wing now, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles should not be forced to play left-back.

Arteta should focus on bringing in a new player to provide cover for Tierney this month. He admitted in his press conference yesterday that he is open to bringing in a new left-back, and that is good news.

We take a look at three left-backs Arteta should consider signing this month.

Ryan Bertrand

A Champions League winner with Chelsea, Bertrand’s career hasn’t quite gone to plan. He was once tipped to be the heir to Ashley Cole’s throne, but that didn’t quite happen at Stamford Bridge. However, he is still a quality full-back.

Goal reported recently that Bertrand is stalling on signing a new contract at Southampton. He has just six months left on his current deal and if the report is anything to go by, he would be open to a switch to a club competing to get into the Champions League. That could give us a chance to lure him in.

Vitaliy Mykolenko

Still only 21, Mykolenko is making a huge name for himself. The Dynamo Kyiv star has played over 100 games for club and country already and it is only a matter of time before he makes the jump to a big club.

Mykolenko will cost more than Bertrand but he could be worth it. He will be more than content with a backup role to start with and as he begins to gain experience, he will push Tierney to his best, which is always a good thing.

Romain Perraud

The Frenchman had a quiet season in Ligue 1 last term, but he has been brilliant this campaign. Perraud has three goals and five assists to his name after 19 games.

His performances have caught the eye of a number of people, including Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane. Defensa Central claimed recently that Perraud is on the Galacticos’ wish list and he has been watched by them for several months.

The 23-year-old is still at Brest and Arsenal should consider swooping in. Perraud is a fantastic talent with humongous potential. He will push Tierney to his limits, and if things go well, he could even pip the Scotsman to be our number one left-back.
