Mikel Arteta and Edu want to get this deal over the line ASAP, and an opening bid has already gone in. Although that offer was rejected (Fabrizio Romano), there is ‘cautious optimism’ that a deal can be done soon (Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth).
Mudryk would be a fine signing if Arsenal can get this deal done, but what shirt number could he take at the Emirates?
Three shirt numbers Mykhaylo Mudryk can take at Arsenal in January
There aren’t too many options for Mudryk to choose from, but here are three numbers we think he could pick if we sign him in next month’s transfer window.
Not really a shirt number you associate with a winger, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain donned this during his time at Arsenal, and he wasn’t too bad.
Like Chambo, Mudryk is fast and full of tricks and flicks. He is, however, definitely better than the Liverpool man and could become a massive success for us in the coming years if we sign him.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles is the current owner of the number 15 shirt at Arsenal, but he’s currently on loan and we can’t see him coming back and playing for us ever again.
Cedric Soares currently wears the number 17 for Arsenal, but the Portugal international has been heavily linked with a move to Fulham. Alex Crook even claimed that he is very close to joining the Whites.
If Cedric does leave the club when the transfer window opens, the number 17 shirt will be up for grabs, and we think that would be perfect for young Mudryk.
Alexis Sanchez, another excellent left-winger, donned that shirt during his time at the Emirates. If Mudryk can even be half as good as the Chilean was in his prime, he’ll end up being a fine player.
Again, not a number you would normally associate a winger with, but Mudryk has some history with it.
The rapid winger donned the number 20 shirt for the Ukraine U21 side and for Shakhtar last season. He provided nine assists in eight starts for his club, which is a sensational return for someone so young.
Nuno Tavares is the current owner of the number 20 shirt at Arsenal, but with Kieran Tierney and Oleksandr Zinchenko available for Arteta at left-back, we just can’t see the Portugal international playing for us next season when his loan deal expires.
He could be sold or sent out on loan again and Mudryk could take his shirt then.
