What position does Warren Zaire-Emery play in and what’s his style of play?

Zaire-Emery is naturally a central midfielder, but he is more than capable of doing a job as a number six as well.

The teenager was also used as a right-back, a right midfielder and even at left-back by Luis Enrique during the 2024/25 season.

When he is playing in his natural position, Zaire-Emery is a complete midfielder. He is good on the ball, possesses great passing ability, and his finishing is not too bad either.

“Defensive work rate, sharp passing, ball carrying and wonderful finishing all in one player” – that’s how scouting website Breaking the Lines describes him.

What Thierry Henry and Arsene Wenger have said about Warren Zaire-Emery

Zaire-Emery has earned praise from some of the greatest names in world football, including two of Arsenal’s biggest legends.

Speaking about the youngster after his performance against Newcastle United in the Champions League, Thierry Henry said on CBS Sports: “The way Warren Zaïre-Emery is playing, it is normal to run the show at just 17 years old. He was the only one that held his ground at St James’ Park. He’s been magnificent […]

“The sky is the limit. I have never seen a player that young being so mature. Usually, you have youngsters that play as forwards that make the difference. But when you play in midfield for a team like PSG, you need to readjust. It is rare to see such a young player in that position.”

Arsene Wenger said about Zaire-Emery in an interview with Le Parisien: “We’re speaking of a boy gifted with super talent. He has blossomed exceptionally early. That’s why he’s been called up by Didier.

“When, at 17, your manager at club level chooses you as one of the first names on the teamsheet, that implies that you exude something that is unstoppable. To some extent, he makes me think of Kylian Mbappe in the sense that people are already unanimous on him, at an age where, in general, everyone says: ‘he’s talented, yes, but let’s see.

“He has a bit of Paul Pogba’s power, but some common qualities with N’Golo Kante in his aptitude to win back the ball. Zaire-Emery is a bit of a mix of the two, a combination of the two 2018 World Champions, with his ability to win the duels without committing fouls and then breaking forward and showing his great vision of the play. He has a bit of Patrick (Vieira) too. A box-to-box midfielder, as the English say.”

Warren Zaire-Emery to Arsenal transfer update

TBR Football reveal that Arsenal have made an enquiry to sign Zaire-Emery this summer.

The youngster is behind Joao Neves and Vitinha in the pecking order in the French capital, and that has alerted interested clubs that he could be available.

Arsenal need reinforcements in the middle of the park with Thomas Partey set to leave the Emirates. Zaire-Emery would be a sensational replacement for the Ghana international.

But, Arsenal face competition from Liverpool and Chelsea, who have also enquired about the 19-year-old France international midfielder.
