A few months ago, it might have seemed senseless to even mention Viktor Gyokeres and Thierry Henry in the same breath but now in February, those conversations can take place.
Gyokeres netted a double this weekend against Sunderland to keep up both his and Arsenal’s recent run of form.
It means that no Premier League player has scored more goals in 2026 than Gyokeres and for his first season as a Gunner, he is now on 13 goals in all competitions.
Use ONE WORD to describe Viktor Gyokeres’ form at Arsenal right now… 👀
Crucially, with three months of the Premier League season to go, Gyokeres has put himself in a great position to be a real success.
And quite remarkably, he can match Thierry Henry’s first ever season at Arsenal.
Viktor Gyokeres edging closer to Thierry Henry’s first Arsenal season
For those who remember the days of Thierry Henry’s first Arsenal season, it was quite a struggle in the first few months.
Henry went nine games without scoring before finally coming to life and going on to finish with 26 goals in all competitions.

Interestingly, with Arsenal still in all four competitions and plenty of games to go, Gyokeres now finds himself halfway to Henry’s total.
Of those 26, Henry hit 17 in the league, with 31 total appearances in the PL.
That is potentially an outlier for Gyokeres, who has already made 23 league appearances for his eight goals.
Still, he’s put himself in a good position to very much regard this season as a success. And if he does get around the 26 mark, he’ll be within his rights to point to Henry’s debut.
What separates Thierry Henry and Viktor Gyokeres
There are a lot of ways in which Henry and Gyokeres are different.
We aren’t for one minute suggesting the Swede is on a par with Henry at all, given the Frenchman was one of the best to ever do it.
If Patrick Vieira isn’t Arsenal’s greatest EVER captain, then who is?
One thing Henry had in his locker that separates him from most strikers – including Gyokeres – was his ability to create for others.
Henry had eight assists in his first season and by the time he was done with the club, he’d laid on more than 100 goals for his Arsenal teammates.
That is a stat Gyokeres is just never going to get close to.
