Portsmouth boss says he has already 'fallen in love' with Miguel Azeez

Arsenal wonderkid Miguel Azeez has completed a season-long loan move to Portsmouth and Pompey boss Danny Cowley says he has already fallen in love with the talented young midfielder.

The 18-year-old has become a household name among Arsenal fans over the last three years. Every Gooner knows just how skilful he is and it’s only a matter of time before he makes it big in the Premier League.

A loan move is much-needed for Azeez to reach the next stage of his career. Pompey fans are really excited to have him around and Cowley believes his ‘athleticism and power’ could make a real difference for them this season.

Portsmouth boss Cowley: We’re in love with Miguel Azeez

Cowley told the club’s official website: “This is a deal that we’ve been working on for the majority of the summer and so we’re delighted. Arsenal have been really good and we have to thank them for putting their trust in us with another young player.

“We’d worked with Emile Smith Rowe before and the loan manager Ben Knapper highlighted Miguel when we first arrived at Pompey, saying he was the next one for us to look after. So we’ve seen him develop since then and fallen in love with him – as you do when you see a boy who’s as talented as he is.

“There has been a lot of interest from other clubs because of his ability. He’s a great kid with a really mature outlook. You can see the hunger and humility to learn and get better, which we really like. He’s really studious and wants to find ways to improve his performance.

“We think the supporters will like Miguel and he’s very good at dribbling, while he can be a real goal threat for us as well. I think he also brings us athleticism and power that can complement what we already have in our squad.”

Azeez could emulate ESR

Emile Smith Rowe made a fantastic name for himself at Huddersfield Town when he was on loan there early last year. His development under Cowley proved to be integral to his breakthrough to the Arsenal first team.

Azeez claimed in an interview on Portsmouth’s official Twitter handle that he had indeed spoken to Smith Rowe about Cowley. He revealed that the Arsenal number 10 gave him brilliant feedback about the Pompey boss, which convinced him to make the move.

Cowley helped us develop Smith Rowe to the level he is at today. If he can do the same with Azeez, Arsenal fans will be eternally grateful and the teenager could emulate his young compatriot in the Premier League very soon.
