Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was quizzed about Emile Smith Rowe missing out on his first England call-up yet again despite being one of the best players in the country over the last month or two.

The 21-year-old has been absolutely incredible for Arsenal. He is doing everything right for someone so young and his recent form made everyone believe that he would get into the England squad.

However, Gareth Southgate snubbed him yet again and Arsenal fans are furious. Smith Rowe has every right to be disappointed about the decision, but Arteta has told him he should be happy that people are complaining about the snub.

Arteta: Emile Smith Rowe will get his chance

The Gunners boss said, as per “I think he should be happy if people are gutted [about him not being selected] or people are questioning any decision because that tells you the level that he’s playing at.

“Like anything that has happened in Emile’s career, it will come when it’s the right moment, because we don’t know if now is the right moment.

“Gareth knows much better than us to judge what he thinks about the role that he could have in that team, and if he’s decided that it’s not the right moment, I’m sure it was a very thoughtful process and the right decision.”

The Insider’s View:

Smith Rowe will certainly get his chance one day, but it’s hard to justify how players like James Ward-Prowse, Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire, who are phenomenal footballers but are not in form, can make the squad ahead of the Arsenal man.

Arteta, however, is right. Seeing people questioning Southgate’s decision shows that Smith Rowe’s performances have been outstanding and the youngster should be happy that fans are backing him over the England boss.

All eyes will now be on Sunday when Arsenal take on Watford. Arteta’s men are on an excellent run and if we can get another win, we’ll go into the international break with a smile on our faces.
