Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was asked about goalscorer Emile Smith Rowe after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Hibernian on Tuesday.

The Gunners conceded early after a poor mistake by debutant Arthur Okonkwo. We went 2-0 down in the second half after the linesman missed a very obvious offside, but we only have ourselves to blame for the defeat.

One of the positives from the game was Smith Rowe’s goal. Hector Bellerin delivered a very good cross from the right and the Croydon KDB finished the move off brilliantly to make the scoreline less embarrassing.

Mikel Arteta: Smith Rowe has to score more goals

Arteta was asked about Smith Rowe’s strike and the Arsenal boss revealed that a lot of work has been going on behind the scenes to help add goals to the youngster’s game.

The Spaniard said after the game, as per Arsenal’s official website: He knows that it is a part of the game he needs to get better at.

“We are working on it a lot and you could see the positions that he took today. He created two or three big chances.”

The Insider’s View:

Arteta’s right, Smith Rowe needs to add goals to his game.

All the top number 10’s in the Premier League find the back of the net regularly. Kevin de Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes often get into double figures as well, and that puts them above most attacking midfielders in the country.

If Smith Rowe can improve the timing of his runs into the box, he will add plenty of goals to his game. He has been improving considerably on that front, and it’s only a matter of time before he reaches the next level.
