Alan Shearer amazed by what ‘incredible’ £27m Arsenal star did during 2-2 draw to Man City

Arsenal were unlucky as they drew 2-2 away at Manchester City after an outstanding performance in difficult circumstances.

Man City dominated the opening 15 minutes, and Erling Haaland continued his incredible start to the season as he opened the scoring early on.

However, Arsenal quickly improved, and Riccardo Calafiori levelled the score with an outrageous long-range strike on his first start for the club.

Mikel Arteta’s side then took the lead as Gabriel Magalhaes scored his second goal in as many Premier League games, yet again powering home a header from a set-piece.

A controversial red card was then given to Leandro Trossard, but Arsenal defended superbly in the second half with 10 men, until City then snatched a last-gasp equaliser.

Alan Shearer has now highlighted Gabriel’s remarkable performance, and the qualities he showed when he scored to put Arsenal into the lead.

Alan Shearer praises Gabriel Magalhaes for Arsenal goal against Man City

Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Shearer praised Gabriel’s intelligence and desire following his goal against Man City.

“There are so many things that you have to do correct [to score from set-pieces],” Shearer stated.

“First of all the ball, then the runners, then the blocks, then the desire from Gabriel to get on the end of the corner that’s coming in.

“You can see since he’s been in the in the Premier League – look how successful he’s been at actually getting on the end of those.

“His desire and his timing to get there is incredible. They’re brilliant at the set pieces.”

Gabriel is one of Mikel Arteta’s best signings at Arsenal

Gabriel was Arteta’s first permanent signing as Arsenal manager, joining for £27m in 2020, and he has been one of the best.

He is now the biggest goal-threat from set-pieces in the Premier League, whilst also helping keep them out at the other end.

Gabriel’s passion and aggression makes him a popular player in the Arsenal fanbase, and his performances have been nothing short of sublime.

The Brazilian showed incredible awareness and strength to power home his header against Man City, before defending superbly for the rest of the game, and had his side held on, he could have scored two winning goals in two huge away fixtures.
