Arsenal take on Wigan for the first time since the 2014 FA Cup semi-final tomorrow and Alan Shearer has had his say on what will happen.

The Gunners have a golden chance to advance past the fourth round for the first time since 2020.

Wigan recently sacked Ryan Lowe and sit within the relegation places in League One at the moment.

Mikel Arteta will likely ring the changes for the Gunners, with a returning Max Dowman potentially available as well.

It’s a game Arsenal are expected to win and according to Alan Shearer, that’s exactly what they’ll do.

Arsenal might see the FA Cup as secondary to the Premier League but it is still a big trophy in English football.

Indeed, Mikel Arteta won it with the Gunners and having got nowhere near winning it again since, he’ll be keen to get to Wembley once more.

And according to Alan Shearer, the Gunners will take that next step this weekend.

“Again, I think Mikel Arteta will change it around with players that didn’t play against Brentford. He’ll put them in, I guess. And again, there will be a story over the weekend, but I don’t think this will be the story,” Shearer said for The Metro.

“I think it will be Arsenal going through.”

Chris Sutton’s prediction for Arsenal v Wigan

Anyone predicting an Arsenal defeat this weekend will be taking a big risk with their call really.

Arsenal should comfortably see off Wigan and give their season another boost.

Indeed, Shearer’s former strike partner, Chris Sutton, also believes Arsenal will win out.

“They have not been past round four since, but they are going to make it to the last 16 this time, I’m sure of it. In fact, they have got so much strength in depth now that, while for years Arteta has not been able to win anything at all, he could feasibly win four trophies this season,” Sutton said.

Real Madrid tell Arsenal they will not sell Endrick. Who should the Gunners sign instead?

“Is the Quadruple on? That could be the question we are asking in the final few months of the season.”

Anything but a win, then, will be a huge failure for this set of Arsenal players.
