Few Arsenal players were able to impress against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday evening.
Whilst Arsenal were able to grind out a 1-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk at the Emirates Stadium, Mikel Arteta’s side were far from their best.
Whilst the Gunners dominated the first half, and went ahead via an own goal, they surrendered control of the match after the break and became sloppy in possession.
Gabriel Martinelli emerged from the game with some credit, and it was his strike that forced the own goal that ultimately won the match.
The Brazilian winger was arguably Arsenal’s best player against Shakhtar Donetsk. However, Thomas Partey was also able to stand out, particularly in the opening period.

Many Arsenal fans on X heaped praise on the Ghanaian midfielder for his performance in this European encounter.
One said: “Thomas Partey has been UNREAL.”

One supporter stated: “There’s no denying that a healthy Thomas Partey is one of the best DMs in the world. He’s been sensational for us this season! I’m really hoping he can continue to stay fit.”

Thomas Partey fighting for his Arsenal future
Towards the end of last season Partey looked finished at Arsenal. However, after several seasons of being plagued with injuries and struggling to maintain his form he has suddenly found a new lease of life in the early stages of this campaign.
The 31-year-old is currently earning his regular starting berth, despite pressure from summer signing Mikel Merino.
Arteta is now considering giving Partey a new contract, and if he can maintain his current standards and fitness then he will be deserving of a new deal at the Emirates Stadium.
