Arsenal fans all make clear Kai Havertz point after Leandro Trossard’s penalty miss vs Shakhtar Donetsk

Arsenal secured victory against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, but it was far from comfortable.

An own goal forced by Gabriel Martinelli in the first half proved to be the difference, but the result could have been a lot more comfortable as Arsenal were awarded a penalty in the second half.

However, Leandro Trossard stepped up to take it, and his unconvincing strike down the middle of the goal was saved by goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk.

Arsenal fans are unhappy with Trossard’s penalty miss, but not because of the miss itself, but rather what could have been for another player.

Arsenal fans frustrated with Leandro Trossard after Kai Havertz misses chance to match record

Going into the game, Kai Havertz had a chance to score in his eighth consecutive home game, which would have matched Thierry Henry’s all-time Arsenal record.

Havertz has an excellent record from the penalty spot, and had he stepped up to take the spot-kick he could have continued his scoring run. As a result, fans are furious that Trossard elected to take it instead.

“Havertz could have taken the penalty and broken the Emirates goal record and we let Trossard take it,” one fan fumed.

“Why we letting Trossard take the pen anyway? Give it to Havertz man,” another posted on X.

“Havertz has scored 20 of the 21 penalties he’s taken in his career. Why was Trossard taking it?” A fan pointed out.

“So Havertz has missed one penalty his whole life and the penalty was given to Trossard LOOOOOOOOOL,” another posted.

“Trossard hadn’t taken a club penalty in 3 seasons. Be interested to know who made the decision to let him take it, When Havertz could have made history,” a fan claimed.

“The best penalty taker not taking penalties really annoys me. Aubameyang taking them over Lacazette and Pepe annoyed me. Trossard taking it over Havertz was downright stupid,” a fan highlighted.

Kai Havertz ends Arsenal home scoring streak

The Shakhtar game was a tough one for Havertz, with Arsenal also failing to create any clear cut opportunities for him.

Arsenal were below par in the second half, and their lack of intensity meant that Havertz was not blessed with a lot of service to try and find the goal.

Havertz should arguably have taken the penalty to seal the result given his record from the spot, and what was at stake, but he has now ended his scoring streak at seven home games, which still highlights the outstanding campaign he has had so far.
