Viktor Gyokeres was the star of the show as Arsenal beat Burnley in the Premier League.
Turf Moor has been a difficult ground for away teams since Scott Parker took charge of the Clarets, but the Gunners made it look easy on Saturday.
Gyokeres, who has divided opinion since making his move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer, played like a man on a mission against Burnley.
The Swede opened the scoring in the 14th minute of the game with a header from close range. From that point, he was almost unplayable in the first half.
Gyokeres created two huge chances for Bukayo Saka, but the Arsenal number seven failed to convert on both occasions. Then, the striker found Leandro Trossard with a fantastic diagonal ball, and that led to Declan Rice’s header 10 minutes before half-time.
The 27-year-old was withdrawn at the break, but his performance up until that point was enough for Arsenal fans to start raving about him.
Arsenal fans hail Viktor Gyokeres after his performance vs Burnley
Viktor Gyokeres has improved in every game since he joined Arsenal. The Swede had only scored five times before the clash against Burnley, but his work rate has consistently been fantastic.
But at Turf Moor on Saturday, every Arsenal fan is in agreement that their striker produced his best performance since joining the club.
One Arsenal fan tweeted: “Shoutout Gyokeres, he’s been on fire today! Got his goal, and I loved his link-up play as he’s been giving Burnley problems. This has been by far his best 45 minutes in an Arsenal shirt, and I am very excited to see more in the second half as every game he’s got better and better.”
Another wrote: “That’s Viktor Gyokeres’ best 45 minutes in an Arsenal shirt!”
“This is Gyokeres’ best 45 minutes in an Arsenal shirt. Classic number nine,” said another.
Another Gooner posted: “Viktor Gyokeres. This is his best game for Arsenal. He has been everywhere, deep, wide, front.”
“The best I’ve seen of Gyokeres thus far! Seems to thrive in a game where everyone is running and creating spaces,” wrote another.
Arsenal players have realised how to get the best out of Viktor Gyokeres
Gyokeres has needed time to settle in since joining Arsenal, and so have his teammates.
The Swede is a completely different striker from what the Gunners have had for a number of years at the Emirates Stadium.
Even Saka admitted recently that Arsenal players have never played with a striker like Gyokeres. That’s why things have been difficult at times.
However, against Burnley on Saturday, both Saka and Trossard were constantly making runs, and that dragged defenders away, thus making space for the Arsenal striker.
That is exactly how the Gunners can bring the best out of Gyokeres in the coming weeks as well.
