Arsenal fans have been delighted with Eberechi Eze’s first-half performance against Sporting CP; however, he has been let down by the front three.
Mikel Arteta’s team head into the break with their one-goal advantage still intact, but the Portuguese side have been pushing hard for the equaliser.
TRUE or FALSE: Eberechi Eze is Arsenal’s best number ten when at his best…
The Gunners struggled to find a way through against Sporting, although Eze looked very lively in the first 45 minutes at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal’s supporters have been discussing the midfielder’s performance and feel as though he is having a great game, despite the attackers around him struggling.
Eberechi Eze let down by Arsenal’s attackers vs Sporting CP
Arsenal fans are so frustrated with their front line and feel Eberechi Eze has been let down by the players around him versus Sporting CP.
The 27-year-old looked by far the Gunners’ most threatening player in the first half, and he enjoyed a great first 45 minutes in the Champions League.
Eze was great against Bayer Leverkusen in the last round; however, his progress was halted by an ankle injury.
But despite his efforts, there was a real struggle for him to progress the ball forward with a lack of movement around him.
He managed to complete 19 passes, 14 of which came in the opposition half, whilst also having 32 touches and making 11 carries.
During the Champions League quarter-final tie, Arsenal fans had plenty to say about his performance on social media.
- “Eze is also a breath of fresh air, a top player. Just a shame our 3 attackers don’t have a brain between them.”
- “Our attackers are just not on the same wavelength as Eze.”
- “The obvious reason we struggle is the front three. Eze is playing brilliant and nothing sticks with the three. So frustrating Arteta keeps trying this combination.”
- “Watching Eze compared to the rest of our attackers is like night and day, literal levels above everyone else.”
- “Eze slicing teams open for this shocking front three.”
Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Martinelli and Noni Madueke all need to offer much more going forward in the final 45 minutes of the tie.
But if the Gunners are to have any joy, Eze is more than likely to be at the heart of their attacking play.
