Arsenal fans were all talking about Viktor Gyokeres in the early stages of the Gunners’ clash with Atletico Madrid.
All eyes were on Gyokeres, who started the game in the thick of a goal drought, last scoring over a month ago.
Mikel Arteta showed faith in his striker with his 12th consecutive start for Arsenal in all competitions.
Arsenal are playing to Gyokeres’ strengths, so there’s a lot of confidence that the goals will come, but the 27-year-old mustn’t be judged solely on that.
During the first half of the Gunners’ meeting with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Arsenal fans applauded what the Swede has been doing aside from putting the ball in the net.

Arsenal fans praise Viktor Gyokeres’ work rate against Atletico Madrid
Of course, for a striker, nothing means more than scoring goals, but Gyokeres’ qualities don’t begin and end there.
Gyokeres’ work off the ball has been recognised as the summer signing continues to grow into his new surroundings, with fans approving of what they saw against Atletico.
One supporter said on X: “Gyokeres, may not be scoring goals for Arsenal, but he is doing a lot for the team and his goals will come.”
“Best 30 mins of gyokeres in a while…looking sharper, darting runs, good hold up, good positioning,” another added.
Arsenal fans shared glowing praise for the Sweden international, lauding the player’s work rate.
“Gyokeres works hard boi, he’s gonna score tonight.”
“I have never seen odegaard merino or Ben white play as hard as Victor Gyokeres idc what they say.”
“Gyokeres may not be scoring but his importance in the team can not be dismissed. A top player for me.”
Other supporters agreed that the striker is underappreciated.
“If you can’t appreciate Gyokeres or Havertz I’m afraid this sport isn’t for you. We’re so spoilt.”
“If you can’t see how productive Gyokeres have been to this team now, you need help.”
Though the £63m signing isn’t scoring as frequently as he’d perhaps hoped, his work is not going unnoticed.
“Nice game Gyokeres. The goals will come when the team learn to play to his strength. Pass the ball into spaces for him, he’s a runner and shooter.”
Another said, “Gyokeres is a solid player, he does everything right. I really hope the goals start coming for him.”
Gyokeres’ record in the Champions League at Sporting CP
Arsenal fans have full faith in Gyokeres, and for good reason, given just how potent the striker has been in the European scoring charts in recent years.
The Swede scored 97 goals for Sporting CP over two seasons, boasting a very attractive record in the Champions League.
| Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 8 | 6 | 0 |
In only eight Champions League appearances for Sporting, Gyokeres scored six goals, three of which came against Manchester City, when he bagged a hat-trick.
The goals will soon come for Gyokeres, who is doing all he can to get himself back on the scoresheet.
